The Moorlands Wedding Photographer

Are you looking for a The Moorlands Photographer?

Set in the countryside at Ogden, just outside Halifax, The Moorlands is a lovely choice for couples looking for a wedding venue with a relaxed countryside feel rather than something overly formal or traditional. With views across the surrounding Yorkshire landscape, the venue has a lovely sense of space and plenty of options for making the day your own. There are several areas to choose from, including the Grand Pavilion, The Loft and the outdoor Clocktower, so whether you’re planning a larger celebration or something a little more intimate, there’s plenty of flexibility. The venue also has an experienced events team who work with couples to tailor the day around what they actually want, rather than expecting everyone to follow exactly the same wedding package.
For larger weddings, the Grand Pavilion is the main event space and is surrounded by countryside, with large bi-fold doors opening out towards the grounds and views. Inside, it has a bright, contemporary feel, with chandeliers and a starlit dancefloor, while outside there’s a private patio area which works really well for drinks, canapés and a bit of fresh air between the formal parts of the day. The Pavilion can accommodate up to 200 seated guests, or up to 300 for a standing celebration, making it a particularly flexible option if you’re planning a bigger wedding.
If you’re having a smaller wedding, The Loft has a completely different feel. With exposed stonework, original beams and a balcony overlooking the countryside, it has a lovely rustic character without feeling too formal. It can accommodate up to 60 seated guests, making it a good option for a more intimate wedding where everyone can be together in one space.

One of the standout features for couples wanting an outdoor ceremony is the Clocktower. A stone pathway leads through the grounds towards the Clocktower, with a feature water fountain along the way, creating a really pretty approach for the ceremony. With the surrounding countryside as your backdrop, it gives the ceremony photographs a very different feel to an indoor ceremony and makes the most of the setting at The Moorlands.

From a photography point of view, The Moorlands gives you plenty to work with. The countryside setting means you don’t have to spend ages travelling somewhere else for your photographs – there are opportunities right around the venue. The views across the fields and moors make a great backdrop for natural couple portraits, particularly if you want photographs that feel relaxed rather than heavily posed. A short wander around the grounds after the ceremony can be a lovely way to have some time together while also capturing some of those just-married moments away from your guests.

The Water Garden is another particularly useful spot for photographs. With its waterfall, romantic bridge and castle ruin, it provides a completely different backdrop from the open countryside and is specifically highlighted by the venue as a photography opportunity. It’s also close enough to the main wedding areas to make it easy to include without disappearing from your guests for ages.

The area around the Clocktower and fountain is another natural spot for photographs, particularly if you’re having your ceremony there. The stone pathway provides some lovely leading lines for photographs, while the Clocktower itself gives you a recognisable feature of the venue to include in your images. The surrounding views also mean there are plenty of opportunities for wider photographs showing you both within the landscape rather than just photographing you against a wall or building.
The Grand Pavilion also works really well for photographs, particularly when the bi-fold doors are open. The views can become part of the background, while the interior provides a useful option if the weather decides to do what British weather does best! The neutral décor, chandeliers and starlit ceiling also give plenty of options for photographs later in the day, especially once the room changes from wedding breakfast to evening party mode.
There are plenty of opportunities for natural guest photographs too. The outdoor areas around the Pavilion are ideal for capturing drinks, canapés, conversations and those little moments that happen between the bigger parts of the day. If you like photographs that tell the story of your wedding rather than having every photograph carefully posed, the layout of The Moorlands lends itself nicely to a documentary-style approach.
