Camp Katur Wedding Photographer
Are you looking for a Camp Katur Photographer?
Camp Katur Glamping is a wonderfully alternative wedding venue set within the Camp Hill Estate near Bedale in North Yorkshire. Surrounded by around 300 acres of woodland, meadows and countryside, Camp Kátur is a great choice if you’re looking for something a little different from the traditional country-house wedding. The whole place has a relaxed, outdoorsy and slightly festival-like feel, with plenty of space for guests to explore, relax and enjoy themselves. The venue currently focuses on exclusive-use weddings and group bookings, making it particularly well suited to couples who want to turn their wedding into a proper weekend celebration.
One of the highlights is the Woodland Chapel, where ceremonies take place surrounded by trees, with a natural aisle leading through the woodland. There’s something rather lovely about walking through the trees towards your guests rather than down a traditional church aisle, and the setting gives the ceremony photographs a really natural, intimate feel. The woodland provides plenty of texture and depth in photographs too, with the trees, ferns and dappled light creating a beautiful backdrop without needing lots of additional decoration. The chapel can seat up to around 120 guests, and the current wedding offering also allows for a drinks reception amongst the trees afterwards.
From a photography point of view, the woodland is a huge part of what makes Camp Kátur so interesting. Rather than having one obvious area for couple portraits, there are lots of little paths, clearings and pockets of woodland to explore. This makes it easy to keep the photographs relaxed and natural, with plenty of opportunities for walking shots, candid moments and more intimate portraits. The woodland can also look completely different depending on the weather and time of day – from soft, atmospheric greenery on an overcast day to gorgeous shafts of sunlight filtering through the trees when the sun comes out.
The Meadow provides a lovely contrast to the woodland. It is a much more open space, with long grasses and views back towards the surrounding trees, making it particularly good for couple portraits. It also gives you the opportunity to get a little more movement into your photographs – walking hand-in-hand through the grass, wandering away from the celebrations for five minutes or simply taking a quiet breather together. If your wedding includes a tipi or marquee, these can become part of the photographs too, creating that relaxed festival-wedding feel. Golden hour in the meadow can be particularly beautiful, with the open space giving the evening light plenty of room to work its magic.
The Hay Barn provides the indoor option for dinner and dancing and has a more rustic, cosy feel. It can also be used as the ceremony space, giving couples a little more flexibility with the format of their day. For photography, it provides plenty of opportunities for capturing the less formal parts of the celebrations – guests chatting over drinks, speeches, dinner, dancing and all those little moments that happen when everyone is relaxed and having a good time. The current wedding package allows the Hay Barn to be used for dinner and dancing for up to 120 guests.
Another big part of the Camp Kátur experience is the on-site glamping accommodation. With guests staying amongst the woodland rather than simply arriving for a few hours on the wedding day, the whole weekend can feel much more like one big celebration. It also opens up some lovely photography opportunities before the ceremony, particularly if you want photographs of everyone getting ready. The unusual accommodation – including geodomes and wooden cabins – makes a much more interesting backdrop than a standard hotel bedroom, while communal outdoor areas are great for capturing the atmosphere as everyone gets ready and catches up.
There are also plenty of opportunities for fun, informal photographs throughout the day. With woodland paths, open meadows, outdoor seating, fire pits and the various accommodation areas, you don’t have to spend the entire portrait session standing and smiling at the camera. A walk through the woods, guests relaxing around the fire, children playing, drinks outside or everyone gathering beneath the trees can all become part of the story of the day. That makes Camp Kátur particularly well suited to a documentary-style approach where the photographs capture how the wedding actually felt rather than simply recording a series of formal poses.
For couples wanting an evening photograph, the setting is particularly appealing. Camp Kátur sits close to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Sky area, and the venue itself highlights its dark skies and peaceful woodland setting. Once the daylight disappears, fire pits, festoon lighting and the glow from the accommodation can create a completely different atmosphere for photographs.
Overall, Camp Kátur is a venue that really lends itself to relaxed, natural and personality-filled wedding photography. There are no shortage of backdrops, but the biggest advantage is that the surroundings encourage you to actually enjoy your wedding day rather than disappearing off for hours to have your photographs taken. You can nip away into the woods for a few photographs, wander through the meadow at sunset and then get straight back to your guests. The combination of woodland, meadow, glamping accommodation, rustic spaces and outdoor celebrations gives the day a very distinctive North Yorkshire feel.
