A Storied Heritage
Rudding Park’s origins trace back to the 18th century. In 1788, Alexander Wedderburn, later Lord Chancellor, acquired the estate and commissioned renowned landscape designer Humphry Repton to remodel the grounds. The current Regency-style house was initiated by the Hon. William Gordon in 1805 and completed under Sir Joseph Radcliffe with architect Robert Chantrell’s oversight. The estate’s Gothic Revival chapel, designed by A.E. Purdie, was completed in 1879, showcasing exquisite stone carvings by Italian stonemasons.
In 1972, the Mackaness family purchased Rudding Park, transforming it into a luxury hotel, spa, and golf resort through continuous development and investment.
