One of my favourite rooms is the Drawing Room, with it’s unique 100% blue silk damask walls and gorgeous high ceiling sporting the most amazing chandelier I’ve ever seen (9ft 2 inches tall!), and also considered to be the finest Venitian Chandelier in England.

History of Allerton Castle, North Yorkshire

Then there’s the Great Hall, towering almost 70 feet, it is amongst the tallest country house ceilings and boasts an extraordinary hammer beam ceiling reminiscent of the Henry VIII Banqueting Hall at Hampton Court and the Great Hall at the Palace of Westminster.

The Great Hall is located in the centre of the Castle and where your wedding ceremony is held. Walking down the great staircase from the extensive bridal suite, you make your spectacular entrance, greeted with the view of your wedding guests and your groom waiting for you at the other end of the alter.

Allerton Castle, nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire, offers couples a wedding venue steeped in history, architectural grandeur, and timeless elegance.

A Storied Past

The estate’s origins trace back to the 11th century, initially owned by the Mauleverer family. Over the centuries, it passed through various hands, including Prince Frederick, Duke of York, in the late 18th century. The current structure, a testament to Victorian Gothic architecture, was constructed in the 1840s under the direction of Lord Mowbray, Segrave, and Stourton. Today, the castle is preserved by the Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation for Historic Preservation and Education, ensuring its legacy endures.

Architectural Splendor

Allerton Castle stands as a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture. Its interiors boast intricate oak carvings, soaring vaulted ceilings, and stained-glass windows that bathe rooms in colorful light. The Great Hall, nearly 70 feet high, features a grand staircase and serves as a breathtaking setting for ceremonies. Other notable spaces include the Ballroom with its fan-vaulted ceiling and the Drawing Room adorned with turquoise silk walls and a Venetian glass chandelier.

A Fairytale Wedding Experience

Licensed for both civil and religious ceremonies, Allerton Castle accommodates up to 120 guests for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, and up to 200 for the evening reception. Couples can enjoy exclusive use of the venue, ensuring privacy and personalization. The castle offers a Bridal Suite and additional en-suite bedrooms for overnight stays, allowing the celebration to extend beyond the wedding day. Guides for BridesUK Bride
