A Storied Past

Constructed in the 14th century by the influential Latimer family, Danby Castle stands as a testament to England’s rich medieval heritage. Notably, it served as the marital home of Catherine Parr and her second husband, John Neville, before she became the sixth wife of Henry VIII. Over the centuries, the estate transitioned through the hands of the Danvers and Dawnay families, with the latter maintaining stewardship to this day. The castle’s architecture, featuring a quadrangular design with corner towers, reflects its dual role as both a fortified structure and a domestic residence. Today, while parts of the castle remain in ruins, significant sections like the south wing and southeast tower have been preserved and repurposed, adding layers of historical intrigue to the venue.
