Hazlewood Castle History
A truly magical and special wedding venue, Hazelwood Castle is a historic Yorkshire castle dating back to the doomsday book, and has remained a family home for nine hundred years, but also served as a maternity hospital during the Second World War and afterwards up to 1953. In 1973, the Castle was sensitively restored and converted into the fabulous wedding venue you see today.

A Storied Legacy
First chronicled in the Domesday Book of 1086, Hazlewood Castle has been a significant landmark for nearly a millennium. Originally the ancestral home of the Vavasour family for over 900 years, the castle has witnessed pivotal moments in English history. In 1290, Sir William Vavasour received permission from King Edward I to fortify the manor, transforming it into the castle we see today. Throughout its existence, Hazlewood Castle has served various roles, including a sanctuary for Catholic priests during the Reformation and a maternity hospital during World War I.
