Originally established by the Fraternity of St John the Baptist, the hall has been meticulously preserved, showcasing its rich heritage through features like the original timber-framed Great Hall and the adjoining Blue Hall, added in the late 15th century.
The hall’s historical significance is further highlighted by its stained glass windows. Notably, the Blue Hall houses two windows crafted by renowned York glass painter Henry Gyles, with the oldest dating back to 1662 . In 2014, to commemorate the hall’s 600th anniversary, new stained glass windows were installed in the Great Hall, incorporating the company’s coat of arms and enhancing the venue’s historical ambiance.
