Engagement shoots, why do I include them?

An engagement, or pre wedding shoot, is a fabulous way for us to get to know each other a little before your big day, and gives me a great insight of you as a couple, and you a good insight as to who I am and how I work. I tend to spend a lot of your wedding day either with you, or following you both around, it makes it a lot less awkward if we’ve met once or twice beforehand. And each couple is different, what works great for one might be the total opposite for another couple. I want to work with you to take away the pressure and make you feel completely at ease on your wedding day so you are able to enjoy and spend the day with those nearest and dearest to you.

Your engagement shoot can take place at your wedding venue where we can have a walk around together and have a chat about what sort of photographs you would like on your wedding day, and I can give you some ideas of my own and advise on what would work and what may not work so well. Having your engagement shoot at your wedding venue also gives us the opportunity to have a sneak peak in the ceremony/reception rooms that you will be using on your wedding day.

You may prefer somewhere more local that is special to you both; a local park or the place they proposed for example. This gives your engagement photographs a special meaning and more likely to hang these on your wall.

It may be that you’re a little camera shy, and the thought of people watching you while we’re out and about is a little daunting, so if you would prefer, your engagement shoot can also take place in my studio; a more controlled and secure private environment which might be much more up your street.

Engagement shoots also give you almost a bit of a trial as to how I work, including some terminology I may use and typical techniques of posing or ‘natural posing’ to help your wedding photography run as smooth as possible on your wedding day.

Have kids or pets you would like to bring along? No problem! I actively encourage kids to come along too, again so I’m not a complete stranger to them on your wedding day, but  as well as getting them involved I would love to give you a few images of just you two as well.
