The York Pavilion Hotel Wedding Venue

The York Pavilion Hotel is one of York’s most popular wedding venues, brimming with character and boasting stunning gardens and a romantic staircase, you’ll find it makes the perfect backdrop to your wedding day photographs come rain or shine.

York Pavilion Hotel Weddings

The hotel was originally a 17th Century farmhouse and was altered extensively in 1785 to become an elegant Georgian home. It was granted the change to a hotel in 1988 by the current proprietors. Family owned, they have been at the York Pavilion Hotel for the last 30 plus years, and have been part of the Best Western brand for for a similar number of years.

The York Pavilions Hotel Wedding Photography

I love photographing weddings at the York Pavilion Hotel, as there are so many photographic opportunities both indoors and out; The front of the property makes a beautiful, traditional scene, especially when you have your smart wedding car in the driveway, then to the side of the venue there is a gorgeous garden featuring a water fountain, a beautiful archway and a sheltered area completed with twinkle fairy lights, all making beautiful backdrops for your wedding photographs. Further round to the rear of the venue there is an archway with rustic wooden bench, some chic barn style doors and further on, a spiral staircase  which makes for gorgeous bridal party and more romantic newly wed photographs. Indoors, the floor length windows of the restaurant looking out onto the garden and the grand fireplace complete with flower decor provide another fantastic backdrop for photographs.

​The York Pavilion Hotel is a distinguished Georgian country house nestled on the outskirts of York, offering a blend of historic charm and modern elegance—an ideal setting for couples seeking a romantic and memorable wedding venue in North Yorkshire.​

Historic Elegance

Originally a 17th-century farmhouse, the property underwent significant transformation in 1785 to become a refined Georgian residence. It was later home to York entrepreneur Xavier Prendergast, whose theatrical connections attracted notable guests such as Duke Ellington, Gracie Fields, and The Beatles during the 1960s. The composer John Barry, renowned for his work on James Bond and other films, spent his childhood here. In 2017, the hotel was honoured with a blue plaque from York Civic Trust, commemorating Barry’s legacy.

Timeless Style

The hotel’s interior exudes classic country house elegance, featuring floral curtains, leather Chesterfield armchairs, and oil portraits that evoke a quintessentially English atmosphere. The tranquil gardens and courtyards provide a serene backdrop, perfect for summer weddings and photographs.

  • Courtyard Suite: Perfect for more intimate gatherings, this suite caters to up to 40 guests and features a private herb garden with a marquee for drinks receptions, ensuring a secure area for young guests.
  • Private Dining Rooms: Andrew’s Drawing Room and the John Barry Suite are available for smaller, intimate gatherings, providing a cozy and elegant setting for close family and friends.
