James and Kerry’s hot summer wedding at KP Resort, Pocklington nr York
August Bank holiday weekend 2019 was a scorcher for Kerry and James’s wedding at the Kilnwick Percy Resort in York. It’s normally a rarity for bank holidays to bless us with hot sunshine, but I also got married on the same weekend 2 years prior which I think was the hottest day that year!
Kerry and James had their wedding at the amazing Kilnwick Percy Resort (also known as KP Resort) in Pocklington just on the outskirts of York. A gorgeous blank canvas style venue set in many acres of land overlooking the beautiful Yorkshire wolds.
I met with Kerry and her bridal party in the morning at one of the log cabins that she had stayed in the night previously (it even had it’s own hot tub!) to photograph her preparations. This is also where I would photograph the finer details such as bouquet, shoes, jewellery and her gorgeous wedding dress.
I really enjoy photographing bridal preparations as it gives me the chance to be a little more creative with those finishing touches. They also create a record of all the accessories your chose to be part of your wedding day. Groomsmen preparations are becoming more popular too, but if you would like both photographing it is recommended that I bring a second photographer with me so that no detail is missed.
Once the bridal party were all ready to go, we hitched a ride to the main part of the Kilnwick Percy Resort in a chauffeur driven golf buggy – amazing! When we arrived we headed straight to the ceremony room; a beautifully light and airy room with floor to ceiling windows boasting views over the golf course and beyond.

After the ceremony we took the opportunity for some group photographs outside in the gorgeous sunshine by the pond, again taking in the views as a gorgeous backdrop.
I think the posed family and friends photographs are so important, I mean how often do you have your whole family (or majority of them) in the same place dressed up to the nines for a happy occasion? Sadly it’s not all that often, so I see this is a huge opportunity to capture some up to date family photographs on your special day to treasure.
These were followed by some more intimate couple photographs around different spots of the venue, taking in the different scenery and capturing some romantic photographs of you as a newly married couple. Then we headed back into the venue for the speeches and wedding breakfast. James and his best men have known each other since they were young, so there were a few stories to share, some that had never come to light before that day by the look on James’s face!
We ate, we laughed, and we danced the night away (yes I normally get involved with the dancing as well!), finishing off with a couple more romantic photographs of the bride and groom outside with the KP Resort lit up sparkling in the background! We even managed to create a clear reflection in the pond – perfect!
Thank you again so much James and Kerry for having me to photograph your wedding day at the York Kilnwick Percy Resort, and to your friends, family, and special helpers (Lorna and Donna) for all their assistance through the day!
